SPECIAL EVENTS 2009
UPCOMING EVENTS
PAST EVENTS
May 22nd to 25th -
RTMC Astronomy Expo at Camp
Oakes, 5 miles southeast of Big Bear City, Ca.
The primary reason for attending is to rub shoulders with a large number of
people who know telescopes and like to talk about them. You can see and look
through a large variety of telescopes (with relatively dark skies and high
altitude), attend talks by professional and amateur astronomers on different
aspects of telescope construction and use, see some astronomical equipment and
software in use, and buy astronomical equipment and software (often at reduced
prices). The vendors contribute door prizes for Saturday and Sunday evenings. We
don't know exactly what prizes there will be in advance, but in the past there have
been telescopes of 8 to 12 inches in aperture.
May
22nd to 25th -
Joshua Tree Astronomy Festival
in Joshua Tree, Ca.
See the universe, like
never before!
Experience the advent of technology that has changed astronomy, forever...
This is an invitation to come and camp in Joshua Tree! And, look
towards the stars as has never been presented before!
It's, also, a chance and bring your telescope and share the night sky
with fellow enthusiasts, interested in the marvels of the night sky.
Or, simply, come, and look through the telescopes that will be aimed
into the depths of the artistry of nature, and, wonders of the heavens.
On May 21, 2009, the Southern California Desert Video Astronomers will
host the Joshua Tree Astronomy Fest, 2009. The event celebrates the
International Year of Astronomy, 2009, recognizing four hundred years
of the documented use of a telescope for astronomical purposes.
The event will last for the entire Memorial Day weekend holiday,
starting on May 21 and ending on May 25th.
The weekend long event will take place at the Joshua Tree Lakes
Campground located on Sunfair Road, about four miles North of Highway
62 in Joshua Tree, California. The campground has lots of room and the
small lake offers a relaxing place to cast a line for keeper catfish
and release bass.. The accommodations include hot showers and access
to one of the most beautiful deserts on the planet. RV hookups and
tent sites are available as are other camp conveniences. Day time
events are also being highlighted and a pot luck BBQ is going to cure
the hungry, on Saturday afternoon.
Highlighting the event is the nightly presentation of the new art of
video astronomy and giant screen video astronomy projection
technology. The use of extremely sensitive astro imaging cameras makes,
near, real time observing of deep sky objects possible. In fact, when
focused on the wonders of the universe, the cameras reveal renditions
of the unseen in brilliant, "Hubble like", scenes that have, before,
been impossible to achieve.
